The Greenville City Fire Department (GCFD) is a full-time professional department staffed by 159 personnel. The department provides fire suppression, education, prevention, inspection, first responder, rescue, and hazardous materials services to the city of Greenville.
Greenville is the sixth largest municipality in South Carolina, at approximately 28 square miles and with an estimated population of 65,245 (2016 ESRI Business Analyst).
In addition to its residential population, Greenville also welcomes more than 2.6 million visitors each year and more than 122,000 workers are dispersed across three million square feet of office space within a five-mile radius of Greenville's downtown.
The headquarters of two major healthcare systems (Bon Secours St. Francis Health System and Greenville Health System) are located within GCFD's jurisdiction, which also includes:
- Interstate 85, a major north/south connector
- Greenville Downtown Airport, the busiest general aviation airport in the state with more than 80,000 departures and landings annually
- A Norfolk Southern and CSX railways intermodal transfer depot.
